MITSUBISHI Lancer Sportback PERFORMANCE
Fuel-Efficient MIVEC Engines
The Lancer Sportback's all-aluminum Mitsubishi Innovative Valve Timing Electronic Control (MIVEC) engines are engineered to deliver all the MPH you can handle with surprising MPG. Choose the 2.0 liter, 148-hp engine in the ES and get a highly economical 32 MPG highway.† Or step it up to the GT, for a 2.4-liter, 168-HP engine that still delivers 29 MPG**. There's just no trade off.
**EPA mileage estimate. Actual mileage may vary.Continuously Variable Transmission
Our Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) can be summed up in a single word: smart. This belt-driven system constantly adjusts the gear ratio to keep the engine running at the optimum RPMs for any speed. That means you get maximum performance and excellent fuel economy at the same time. But the CVT doesn't stop there. It also features INVECS-III, a control system that is so advanced, it actually learns how you drive and can anticipate your every move.
Sport-Tuned Suspensions
The Lancer Sportback combines MacPherson struts in front with a finely tuned, multi-link suspension in the rear. Why? So you don't have to compromise between superb handling and a comfortable ride. Whether you're hugging the curves on a mountain road or driving over an unexpected pothole, the Lancer Sportback always stays smooth, solid and responsive.
Available Magnesium Paddle Shifters
Borrowed from our rally heritage and included with our CVT transmission, steering-column-mounted magnesium paddle shifters merge the thrill and control of manual shifting with the convenience and ease of an automatic. You can downshift or upshift with a tap of your finger…no rally experience necessary. So why magnesium? Two reasons: it looks cool, and it stays cool, even if you park your Lancer Sportback in direct sunlight.
Strong Body
The body of the Lancer Sportback offers two types of strength, each serving an important purpose. Its exceptional structural strength helps to improve safety and extend the long-term life of your car. And then there's the torsional strength, which allows the Lancer Sportback to respond to the twists and turns of the road, for superb handling across a wide range of road conditions.

Active Stability Control‡
The standard Active Stability Control (ASC) system constantly monitors traction between the tires and the road. On detecting slippage or a loss of control, ASC alerts the control unit, which applies the brakes on individual wheels to help keep the vehicle moving in your intended direction.
‡ Safety is a two-way street. It requires your attention and cooperation. Please remember to fasten your safety belt, drive responsibly and obey all traffic laws.Superior Braking & Control Systems
The Anti-lock Braking System (ABD) with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD)‡ helps keep you in control—no matter what the road brings. ABS constantly monitors wheel speed and applies up to ten pulses per second to prevent lock-up during hard braking. EBD adds intelligent controls that can shift the braking force between the front and rear wheels on an instant-by-instant basis. Working together, they can reduce skidding and increase control, even while turning.
‡ Safety is a two-way street. It requires your attention and cooperation. Please remember to fasten your safety belt, drive responsibly and obey all traffic laws.Anti-Theft Alarm System
The Lancer Sportback is equipped with an integrated anti-theft alarm system that features an "immobilizer" security key. Each key carries an embedded wireless tag with a unique code for the engine control unit. If the engine doesn't recognize the wireless key, it won't start. And that's just one of many deterrents in this world-class integrated anti-theft system.
Seven Standard Airbags**
Innovation shouldn’t only come under the hood. In addition to six airbags that help protect the front and sides of your passengers, the Lancer Sportback adds a seventh under the driver’s dash, designed to help stabilize your lower legs and body in certain types of frontal collisions.
** Airbags are part of a Supplemental Restraint System (SRS). To decrease the risk of injury from a deploying airbag, always wear your seatbelt, sit upright in the middle of the seat and do not lean against the door. Always place children 12 and under in the rear seat and use appropriate child restraints. Never place a rear facing infant restraint in the front seat. See your owner's manual and instructions provided with your child restraint for additional information.
