ECO Start/Stop System
A fuel-saving ECO Start/Stop system automatically shuts off the engine at stoplights and other idle situations. As soon as the driver lifts off the brake, the engine instantly restarts, for immediate acceleration response. The ECO Start/Stop system can also be shut off by the driver at any time.
DYNAMIC SELECT
A multimode drive program selector on the console lets you transform the car's character with the push of a console button. Four modes (ECO, Comfort, Sport and Sport+) alter the throttle response, shift points, steering effort, ECO Start/Stop and more. A fifth "Individual" mode allows you to create a mode of your own, even letting you set the transmission for purely manual shifting. With the available Active Body Control (ABC) suspension, a CURVE mode enhances cornering comfort.
3.0L V6 Biturbo Engine
A smooth, strong 362-hp 3.0-liter V6 combines twin turbos and numerous other advances to reduce emissions and fuel consumption while increasing performance. In a single millisecond, the rapid-multispark ignition can fire up to four times, while the high-pressure Direct Injection precisely tunes the ultrafine fuel spray. A lightweight diecast-alloy block, widely variable valve timing, reduced friction, and clever "on-demand'' ancillary components further boost efficiency.
Perforated Front Brakes With 4-Piston Calipers
Perforated and internally ventilated front brake discs help maintain maximum braking performance by better dissipating the heat of hard or repeated braking that can cause brake fade. The perforations are cast in place when the rotor is made, to prevent the creation of stress points that can occur during conventional cross-drilling. For more even and powerful braking force, the front discs feature large 4-piston calipers.

A Mercedes-Benz exclusive, MAGIC SKY CONTROL® is an innovative evolution of the Panorama roof concept that can change the transparency of its glass panel when electrical current is applied. At its darkened setting, the thermal energy entering the cabin is less than a household light bulb. And even in its transparent mode, both UV and infrared rays are effectively blocked, helping keep the cabin cooler.
Power Retractable Hardtop
Transform your SL from closed coupe to open roadster in under 20 seconds, even as you accelerate up to 25 mph. With a single button on the console, the top folds into the trunk. An electric trunk partition moves into place automatically as you operate the top, while the rear window pivots 180 degrees to help preserve cargo space with the top stowed.

From its expressive headlamps to its boldly angular taillamps, long-lasting and energy-efficient LEDs accomplish every exterior lighting function with distinctive style. LEDs also offer quicker illumination, offering other drivers more time to react to your brake lamps and other signals.

3-Spoke Multifunction Sport Steering Wheel
The sport steering wheel features a flat-bottom design and hand-stitched Nappa leather rim with perforated side grips. Raised thumbrests are placed at the ideal "10 and 2 o'clock" positions, near the silver-painted shift paddles. Convenient multifunction controls do likewise while operating the most frequently used vehicle functions and the illustrated color menu display in the gauge cluster.
Sun-Reflecting Leather Upholstery
Supple, full-grain leather is hand-fitted to the seat surfaces and head restraints. Tradition meets technology in an innovative treatment that helps the leather reflect heat and better resist the sun's damaging rays.
Power Windblocker
At the touch of a button, a mesh screen rises from the rear cabin wall, helping to calm drafts and buffeting in the cabin for more comfortable and quiet top-down motoring. When not needed, it retracts elegantly into the rear cabin wall, out of sight and without taking up trunk space.

Aluminum Body Structure
Engineered from road to roof not just as a convertible but as a Mercedes-Benz, the SL body structure enhances both occupant protection and handling precision. Composed virtually entirely from stamped, cast, chilled-cast, thermoformed and extruded aluminum, the body shell is nearly 300 lbs lighter than before yet 20% more torsionally rigid. The only structural steel in the body is the windshield frame, whose "tube-in-tube" pillars offer high strength with minimal vision obstruction.
