The S90 is engineered to strike the perfect balance between comfort and precision. At the front, aluminium double wishbone suspension contributes to quick steering responses. At the rear, our unique integral link suspension keeps weight to a minimum and ensures a smooth ride. Optional rear air suspension keeps the car level and stable on all road surfaces, even when fully loaded.
Drive it your way
The S90 offers a choice of Drive Modes to match the road ahead, and your mood. A roller control between the front seats allows you to switch between three settings – which are displayed on the 9" Sensus Touchscreen. These alter the characteristics of the engine, automatic gearbox, steering, brakes, stability control system and engine stop/start. Comfort mode means maximum comfort, Dynamic sharpens up the car's responses and Eco helps maximize efficiency. And, with Individual mode, these characteristics can be combined to create a car tailored to you.

With Drive Modes to suit every journey, your S90 T8 Twin-Engine Plug-In Hybrid is like having three cars in one. In Pure mode, electric-only power allows you to travel far enough on battery power alone for most daily commutes, providing zero-emissions travel in near-silent luxury. Switch to Power mode and the turbocharged and supercharged gasoline engine and powerful electric motor combine to give you powerful acceleration. Hybrid – the default mode – uses the gasoline engine and electric motor in concert for smooth and efficient driving.

Our safety innovations are the result of decades of innovation, and lie at the heart of every Volvo car. A rigid safety cell constructed from ultra high-strength boron steel protects the car's occupants, while pre-tensioners and load limiters allow safety belts to work effectively in the event of an impact, without exerting too much pressure on the body.
An extra eye on the road
Protecting people – whether inside or outside the car – is the aim of City Safety. This Volvo Cars innovation looks out for potential danger by using radar and camera technology to identify other vehicles, cyclists, pedestrians and large animals ahead, day or night. If City Safety detects an imminent collision, it alerts the driver and can automatically apply the brakes if the driver doesn't react in time. This can help avoid or mitigate a collision. Steering Support is also part of City Safety, an innovation that helps the driver to steer away from danger as effectively and safely as possible.
Stay on course
Accidents where a vehicle leaves the road are one of the most common types. Volvo Cars' Run-off road Mitigation helps make these less likely to happen by detecting if the car is about to leave the road unintentionally between speeds of 65-140km/h. It can then use steering and braking to guide the car back onto the right path. In the event of a car leaving the road, Run-off Road Protection – another Volvo Cars innovation – reduces the chances of serious injury. The front seat frame absorbs the impact of a hard landing on the body, while optional variants of Volvo Cars safety belts automatically tighten.
Active Bending Lights*
As you steer, the headlights turn to illuminate the curve ahead. LED illumination allows you to enjoy high beam with even greater radiation and range. The system uses a camera at the upper edge of the windshield to detect the headlights of oncoming vehicles or the taillights of a vehicle directly ahead. When this happens, the headlights will automatically switch from high beams to low beams. When the camera no longer detects the headlights/ taillights of other vehicles, your headlights will switch back to high beams after several seconds. Active Bending Lights are added to standard Full LED Headlights w/ Thor's Hammer Daytime Running Lights & Auto Highbeam.
