Intelligent 4WD with Terrain Management System
The standard Terrain Management System™ can help tackle any adventure. Available Intelligent 4WD comes with seven selectable drive modes, accessed through a single easy-to-use dial in the center console. Normal, Trail, Deep Snow/Sand, Slippery, Sport, Tow/Haul and Eco mode that each come with special 3D animated graphics in the available 12.3-inch digital cluster. Plus, Hill Descent Control™ helps control braking and speed on steep grades. 3.0L EcoBoost® Engine
As the backbone of the ST and Platinum powertrains, that available 3.0L EcoBoost® takes the athletic feel of Explorer a step further. By using turbocharging and direct injection, the Platinum powertrain generates 365 horsepower plus 380 lb.-ft. of torque. The ST combines this muscular engine with Ford Performance engine tuning for a powertrain like nothing before it. With 400 hp plus 415 lb.-ft. of toque and top speed of 143 mph, the 2021 ST really brings the power.
Rear-Wheel Drive
The 2021 Explorer comes equipped with RWD to maximize performance and design. Rear-wheel drive architecture enables a sportier, more athletic design, improved on- and off-road capability and 600 pounds more in maximum towing capacity when equipped with the Class III Trailer Tow Package.
Explorer Limited Hybrid
The Explorer Limited Hybrid is the only Hybrid in its class that can tow 5,000 pounds* and it's also fully off-road capable. The rear-wheel-drive model also offers more miles traveled between fill-ups with the 3.3L Hybrid Engine.
10-Speed Transmission
The 10-speed transmission makes transitioning between speeds a more efficient process, ensuring smooth upshifts and downshifts. Compared with a 6-speed, the 10-speed delivers improved overall performance, with enhanced acceleration at the low and mid ranges of the power band.
Explorer ST
The 2021 Explorer ST blends utility with bold performance. It features an athletic stance, unique ST badging and a bold grille. Towing and Trailer Sway Control
Building on AdvaceTrac® with Roll Stability Control,™ standard trailer sway control selectively brakes and adjusts engine power to maintain trailer control. The result is stability and control, even when towing large loads. When equipped with the class III trailer tow package and the 3.0L V6 engine, the Explorer can tow a maximum of 5,600lbs.* The Class III Trailer Tow Package is available with the 2.3L EcoBoost® and 3.3L hybrid engines and comes standard with the 3.0L EcoBoost engine.
Post-Collision Braking
