Shift-by-wire single speed transmission
You can enjoy a smooth, seamless flow of power that adds to a very comfortable, controlled and intuitive driving experience without any gear changes. All gear shifter positions are conveniently operated using the gear shifter stalk close to the steering wheel. Shift-by-wire technology allows you to easily shift between Reverse, Neutral and Drive with one single movement. From here you also operate Parking mode, the electric parking brake and Pilot Assist.
Hill Descent Control
Hill Descent Control offers controlled descents on steep, rough and slippery roads at speeds up to 25 mph. When activated, it helps you descend smoothly using engine braking or, if needed, by braking each wheel individually – you just have to steer. This function also makes it easier to move off when towing a heavy trailer or a boat on a trailer up a ramp.

Dual-stage airbags, driver
Together with the safety belt, the driver airbag helps protect the head, face and chest in a frontal collision. It's intelligent too: to optimize protection, the airbag adapts the level of inflation to the weight of the driver and the force of the impact. And if the impact is so low that the airbag isn't needed, the system will only deploy safety belt pre-tensioners if necessary.
Whiplash injury protection system
WHIPS™ is a Volvo safety innovation that efficiently helps reduce the risk of whiplash injury if your vehicle is hit from behind. On impact, the entire front backrest and head restraint move with the occupant to support the neck.
Seat belts
A Volvo innovation, the three-point seat belts are the foremost safety feature inside your vehicle. In a collision or rollover, tensioners instantly tighten the belts to keep the occupants tightly restrained. They then release a little to reduce the strain. This also means that the driver and front-seat passenger are cushioned by the airbags in a controlled fashion.
