B5 AWD Gas (mild hybrid)
The versatile gasoline mild hybrid with all-wheel drive and 8-speed automatic for generous power, high efficiency, and all-road. The engine’s good response at low to medium revs makes driving comfortable. Responsive all-wheel drive adds to stability, traction, and control in all road conditions. Our mild hybrid technology with a 48V lithium-ion battery recovers the energy generated by braking to further improve fuel efficiency. It also provides smooth, electrically boosted acceleration from standstill. The start/stop function further helps reduce fuel consumption and emissions, while a particle filter keeps the levels of harmful particulates in the exhaust down.
All-wheel Drive (AWD)
Our AWD technology with Instant Traction™ gives you an edge by increasing driving stability and traction – on all road surfaces and in all weathers. As conditions change, wheels with the best grip get the most power to optimize your drive. Under normal conditions, practically all the power is distributed to the front wheels to minimize fuel consumption without compromising on stability. And when needed, up to 50% of the engine's power can be distributed to the rear wheels. At a standstill, full all-wheel drive is always engaged to prepare for maximum traction. This also facilitates take-off in slippery conditions or if you, for example, are pulling a boat trailer up a ramp.
Hill Descent Control
Hill Descent Control offers controlled descents on steep, rough and slippery roads. When activated, it helps you descend smoothly from 8 to 40 km/h (5 to 25 mph) using engine braking or, if needed, by braking each wheel individually – you just have to steer. You can brake anytime or, if you prefer, accelerate to adapt the speed. The smooth accelerator characteristics of Hill Descent Control also make it easier to drive off when towing a heavy trailer or a boat up a ramp. It also works in reverse gear.

Our panoramic roof adds a superb experience of airiness and light for everyone inside your Volvo. For ventilation, the front section opens at the push of a button. A power-operated sunshade in perforated textile reduces glare on sunny days while maintaining the airy feel inside the cabin. The sunshade opens from the rear so your rear-seat passengers can enjoy the ambiance of light while the driver and the front-seat passenger are still shaded. Dark tinted laminated glass further increases climate comfort and security and helps protect against UV radiation.

Inflatable Curtain
Our Inflatable Curtain helps protect your head and neck in a side-impact collision or rollover. Helping to provide protection for occupants sitting on the sides of the vehicle, it deploys from the ceiling above the doors. The Inflatable Curtain also helps protect in some frontal collisions and stays inflated for several seconds to provide prolonged protection in the event of secondary impacts.
Side impact protection
The SIPS™ side-impact protection system helps protect you and your passengers in a side-impact collision. The body's steel framework displaces the impact of a collision from the side away from the occupants to other parts of the vehicle body. The extremely strong side structure helps withstand a severe side impact – even with a larger vehicle. The Inflatable Curtain and the front-seat side airbags interact with SIPS™ to help provide further protection for the front-seat occupants. In the rear, SIPS™ and the Inflatable Curtain help protect the passengers in the outer rear seats.
BLIS™ and Cross Traffic Alert
This feature can support in heavy traffic and when reversing. When a vehicle enters your blind spot or approaches fast from behind, you can be alerted via a light in the door mirrors. Should you nonetheless drift into the path of another vehicle, your car can help steer you back into your lane. To help make parking safer, it can also alert you on crossing traffic when you reverse out of a parking space with limited rear visibility. It can even brake for you if there’s a risk of collision.
